The Dawn Redwood tree has been referred to as a living fossil.  The tree was only known by fossil records until 1943 when it was rediscovered in China.  Fossil records show that it was once native to most of North America.  The Dawn Redwood is a very adaptable tree for our area, and should be considered in large landscapes.

This tree can grow 60-90 feet tall and 20-30 feet wide.  It has a beautiful soft foliage that turns a bronzy-orange color in the fall, and loses it’s leaves for winter.  There are now several cultivars available, some that even have golden foliage!
