This past winter has taken a heavy toll on landscape plant materials due to the extreme cold weather and above average snowfall amounts. Per NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin) indicated that the months of January through March ranked 4th coldest in 120 years of recorded data. Therefore, you may notice that some of your plants are in distress, have died back in portions or in whole. For the nurseries, the largest hit species include the following:
- Fir trees (Concolor, Japanese and Turkish)
- Red Maple
- Barberry
- Boxwood
- Redbud
- Dogwood (Kousa)
- St. John’s Wort
- Holly
- Inkberry
- Tamarack Larch
- Yellow Delicious Apple
- Russian Cypress
- Pitch Pine
- Japanese Black Pine
- Virginia Pine
- Emerald Arborvitae
- Itea Little Henry
- Western Cedar Arborvitae
- Eastern Hemlock
- Doublefile Viburnum
